Hello bookworms, happy WWW Wednesday!
This book tag is hosted by Taking On a World of Words, its a set of three questions asked of book bloggers weekly to see how their reading is getting on.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I’ve actually had the paperback on my shelf for a number of years now but have been a little too daunted by the page count to start it (the UK paperback is 831 pages). I decided to start it this month as it’s the Waterstones Oxford Queen Street’s Sci-fi and Fantasy Book Club pick for August. I used to attend the Waterstones book club in my home town but it’s been rubbish for ages. 😅 (Maybe I’ll talk about that in a separate post sometime soon). This’ll be my first time attending a book club at the Oxford store, really looking forward to it!
I’m also reading Summer of Blood by Dan Jones. This is a historical account of the English peasants revolt of 1381. At the start of the year I set myself a goal to read one non-fiction books per month, which hasn’t gone to plan so far. Hopefully I can stay consistent with this for the rest of the year.
What have you finished reading?
I finished reading The Spiral of Life by Francesca McMahon. This is a sapphic YA fantasy inspired by Celtic mythology, set in Scotland (and the Otherworld). I really enjoyed this and am excited to pick up book two when it comes out later this year! Full review coming later this week.
What will you read next?
I recently picked up Mead Cute by Sam Parks while attending Fantasy Forest, UK’s most popular fantasy festival, in July. Dryad Books, an independent UK online book shop specialising in fantasy and speculative fiction, had a stall at the event and hosted a signing for Sam on the Saturday. Sam was lovely and signed my copy of Mead Cute, which is a sapphic romance inspired by D&D and ren faires!
