I’ve been in the online book community since 2016 and over the last 10 years I have been recommended Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy novels more consistently than any other author! Even in 2016, he had already published 10 + novels. At the time I hadn’t read a series longer than a trilogy so was intimidated to start the Cosmere.

Now, of course, many more books have been published since, making the challenge way more daunting (oops). But I have now started!

On Monday, I picked up Mistborn Book One, previously published as The Final Empire. I’m just over 50 pages in and am very intrigued by the story so far. My plan is to get through the original Mistborn trilogy first before assessing if I want to continue my journey into the Cosmere.

I have observed over the past decade this fantasy universe isn’t for everybody, which is absolutely fine! Everybody’s tastes vary, especially in fantasy, as it’s such a broad genre with many possibilities and styles. But there’s obviously a huge community of readers that absolutely love it, there’s literally an entire convention dedicated to it too!

Hopefully by sharing my experience reading the Cosmere, I can connect to this wider part of the fantasy reader community I’ve always observed but never been a part of!

As always, more regular reading updates will be on Instagram!
