I can’t remember the last time I went through my Kindle library and actually paid attention to the amount of eBooks I owned on the device. Usually I just see “99p Kindle deals” pop up on my Twitter feed and buy a few more because who doesn’t love a bargain? Three and a bit years later that turns into 308 eBooks!
I regret to say most of these are unread π¬ The piles of unread books stuffed into my bookshelves has made it really clear that I buy more books than I read but with eBooks they always seem to slip under the radar because I can’t see them every day. Even when I’d flick through my Kindle I’d always assumed I had around 100 books on there.
I probably wouldn’t have notice this at all if I hadn’t just bought the Kobo Libra Colour and had begun transferring all my eBooks from my Amazon account to the Kobo. Only then did I realise I had so many!
Only 50 or so have been transferred so far (you have to transfer them individually so its taking me forever) but I’ve already started culling some of my eBooks. There’s a few titles I’ve come across that I just don’t have any interest in anymore and so haven’t put them on my Kobo. To be honest I might go full Marie Kondo and go through what I’ve already transferred and delete a few more books from my e-library. And once I’ve done that set a reading goal/challenge to get me to finish all my eBooks before I purchase anymore.
We’re all guilty of having a few (hundred) more books than we need or will ever read in a reasonable amount of time. I think the infamous BookTube Unhaul videos have made getting rid of books you don’t want something to be ashamed off. Sometimes things just accumulate over time. BUT I’m going to show a little bit of restraint and actually reduce my TBR a little bit before I go on my next book buying spree.
