Happy New Year Book Dragons! 2021 was just awful, wasn’t it? I really hope 2022 will be a lot better.
This year I’m setting my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 52 books. It’s a little ambitious for me but it’s always good to dream, right? I’ve got a few other personal reading goals which you can read about below.
Read every book by V.E. Schwab
As many of you know, V.E. Schwab is my favourite author and I absolutely LOVE her books but shockingly I haven’t read all of them. Initially I was thinking of just reading the ones I haven’t got to yet but it’s actually been a few years since I read anything from her, so I decided to just read her entire backlist. I’m not reading them in any order, just reading books in a series consecutively.

These books include (in no particular order):
- Vicious (Villains #1)
- Vengeful (Villains #2)
- A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1)
- A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2)
- A Conjuring of Light Shades of Magic #3)
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (Standalone)
- Gallant (Standalone, pub date 1st March 2022)
- This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1)
- Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2)
- The Steel Prince (Volumes 1-3, Shades of Magic spin-off comic book)
- ExtraOrdinary (Villains spin-off comic book)
- City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake #1)
- Tunnel of Bones (Cassidy Blake #2)
- Bridge of Souls (Cassidy Blake #3)
- Everyday Angel (Omnibus, books 1-3)
- The Near Witch (Standalone)
Note: I won’t be reading her contribution to the Spirit Animal series as that is one book in a larger series by different authors, of which she was hired to write.
I know that looks like a lot (because it is) but I always fly through her books so I’m not worried!
The Realm of the Elderlings Readalong
I’m taking part in a readalong for Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series with the lovely people over at Gregory LaPerche’s discord server. It’ll run until August 2023 but for 2022 we’re just reading the first three trilogies in this massive sixteen book series. It’s one book per month with a month break in between each trilogy. I’m super excited for this readalong as I’ve been wanting to read Robin Hobb’s books for years now but was always put off by the sheer size of the series. Hopefully with the discord server we’ll encourage each other to push through and finish this series.

Finally there were a number of books I wanted to make sure I get too in 2022 but these are sort of ‘lower priority’ reads. The most important of these is the National Anthem comics by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon, as well as the Electric Century graphic novel by Mikey Way and Shaun Simon. I’d also like to read a few of the Death novels in the Discworld series but as I’m already planning on reading so many series in 2022 I’m not sure I’ll have time to get to it. I’d also like to read one non-fiction book per month but we’ll see how that goes.
I really hope 2022 is a much better year for everyone and you all achieve your reading goals!
