I need to catch up on my Stephen King TBR. As a reader and lover of horror literature, reading King’s novels is (sort of) a requirement. Quick PSA, being a fan of the books is NOT required but there’s definitely an expectation to give one a go, test the waters a bit, see if you like the view, etc. I’ve only read King’s Pet Semetary in full and have started several of his novels over the years, but without finishing them.

My interest in Stephen King and his works began in 2017, when I went to see IT: Chapter One in the cinema. At this point in time I wasn’t really a fan of horror movies. I’ve always had an interest in the gothic and spooky but have struggled to watch “real” horror movies ever since I saw Halloween: Resurrection when I was 6 or 7 and it low-key traumatised me. I only ended up seeing IT: Chapter One as some of my uni housemates were going. I had no lectures that afternoon and wanted to hang out, so I tagged along.
I was scared during the movie and I definitely shut my eyes during some of the more gory parts but I had a blast! The Losers Club have such a wholesome charm to them and I enjoyed how funny the movie was outside of the more terrifying aspects. I’ve rewatched Chapters One & Two so many times now I actually consider them comfort movies. It’s been my goal to read (most of) Stephen King’s novels ever since.
To help me get through King’s never-ending backlist of novels I’ll be reading one a month for the rest of the year, hence the title: King of the Month. I’ll be posting my King of the Month book announcement at the start of the month and my review towards the end of the month.
July’s King of the Month will be IT!
This is a mammoth book – my paperback copy has 1376 pages. I’ve split the book into its 5 sections and interludes with book tabs, as you can see in the image below.

Feel free to join in if one of the books peeks your interest. I’m very excited to continue my Stephen King journey. And yes, that is me in a Ghostface cosplay. 😅
