Hello bookworms, happy WWW Wed… Wait, it’s Friday! Sorry this is so late, also for missing last week. I’ve been busy with travelling up and down the country, as well as getting back into some exam revision for my Masters degree. I should be back on track next week, fingers crossed.🤞🏻
This book tag is hosted by Taking On a World of Words, its a set of three questions asked of book bloggers weekly to see how their reading is getting on.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading two books: The Lone Wolf Café by Sydney Wilder and Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab.
The Lone Wolf Café is a Sapphic paranormal romance between a werewolf and a witch set during the Halloween season. I’m reading this as an ARC from NetGalley and its super cute so far. It’s definitely scratching my Halloween itch. The romance is developing nicely but isn’t predictable, there’s still a bit of mystery in the wider plot to keep me interested.
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is easily my most anticipated book of the year. V.E. Schwab has been my favourite author for many years now. I’m only a couple chapters into this one so am still figuring out what’s going on but as always I’m really connecting with Victoria’s writing. I’ll be at the Edinburgh stop for her book tour at the end of the month so let me know if you’re going too!

What have you finished reading?
I finished Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare and The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo.
I loved Clown in a Cornfield (the review is still in my drafts, sorry!), its a perfect little small town slasher novel. I thought the ending was satisfying and am intrigued to see where it goes. I’ll be reading books 2 and 3 later this year with my horror bestie. We saw the movie together last week and we did NOT like it. The movie completely removes all of the emotion from the story and turns it into a pretty basic low-budget horror movie. I’ve got a rant review coming soon. I just think it’s a shame as the book is written very cinematically so it was already ripe for adaptation, it only needed minor changes (in my opinion).
My review for The Familiar can be read here. I will warn you I didn’t love it, overall it was a pretty mid book for me. If this wasn’t the June pick for my local Waterstones book club I’m not sure I would’ve had the motivation to finished it.

What will you read next?
To the surprise of everyone, including me, I actually managed to make a TBR for June! You can read it here, and of course its inspired by Pride month. I’m Queer myself so celebrating LGBTQIA+ stories and authors in June is a must!
Happy reading! 📚
I recently started my Bookstagram! This is the new photo setup I’m trying out. Do you like it?
