Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a good NYE celebration, I was definitely a little hangover the next morning. 😅 Last year I was terrible at sticking to any kind of reading schedule but this year I certainly need one. I’m a part of two book clubs, have my own reading goals and have started reviewing ARCs again, so absolutely need to be organised in 2024.

In Memoriam by Alice Winn

In Memoriam is my local book club’s pick for January 2024. This novel has been described as A haunting, virtuosic debut novel about two young men who fall in love during a time of war. I think I’m one of the last in the club to finish reading it, am about 120+ pages in so far. Some of the other book clubs members have already expressed their love for this book on Instagram and I’ve been told to keep tissues handy. It was also Waterstones Book of the Year Winner 2023.

New Moon by Stephanie Meyer

Myself and a couple friends read Twilight last month after we’d spent a good few weeks sending cringy memes about the Twilight movies to each other. We figured we might as well reread them. 😅 I don’t remember anything past the first book/movie so am genuinely intrigued to find out what happens in New Moon and beyond. I decided to name our group chat “the skin of a killer book club✨”.

Sistersong by Lucy Holland

I’ve had Sistersong on my Kindle for well over a year now but still haven’t got around to it. In all honestly the reason why I’m reading it this month is I’ve received an ARC for Song of the Huntress by Lucy Holland. It’s not a direct sequel to Sistersong but does make reference to some of the events in it, which is why I’m reading this first. It’s a reimagining of a British folk ballad and many reviewers have compared this book to Madeline Miller’s Circe – which I read last year and loved.

Hurricane Lizards and Plastic Squid: How the Natural World is Adapting to Climate Change by Thor Hanson

My non-fiction pick for this month is Hurricane Lizards and Plastic Squid: How the Natural World is Adapting to Climate Change by Thor Hanson. I’ve made it one of my bookish goals for the year to read one non-fiction book per month because I’m lost touch with my curiosity and love for science since I graduated university several years ago.

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas (Jan/Feb)

I’ve wanted to read The Three Musketeers for many, many years now because one of my favourite TV shows is the BBC’s The Musketeers (2014). One of my other bookish goals for 2024 is to read 10 classics throughout the year. I didn’t want to commit to one per month as some of the classics I want to read are quite lengthy (looking at you The Count of Monte Cristo and Moby-Dick), so 10 across 2024 will allow me to read the larger texts over 2 months, which is what I plan to do for this one.

Happy reading! 📚

I have a goal to read classic SFF. I always put off reading classics so maybe picking a specific genre to start with will help 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ahh got distracted. But I’ve wanted to read The Three Musketeers for a while, so I’ll be looking forwarded to hearing about your progress with it.

Yes, hopefully the specific genre will help you out! Some of the classics I want to read this year are from multiple genres, I didn’t want to limit my choices lol
