With only 4 months left of 2023, lots of readers are starting to panic over how their yearly reading goal is going and usually, how they can catch up. This year I set my Goodreads Reading goal to only 12 books, I didn’t want any pressure when it came to reading this year. In all honesty I think the online book community puts way too much emphasis on reading statistics and not enough time actually seeking out books they’ll enjoy and love for a long time. That being said, what do I want to get to before 2023 is over?

Red Country & Sharp Ends by Joe Abercrombie

These are the next two books in the World of the First Law. After I finish these I’ll only have the Age of Madness trilogy to get to and then I’m all done with the First Law series. This has slowly become one of my favourite fantasy series over the past 2 years.

The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab

Easily my most anticipated release of 2023! I absolutely adore the Shades of Magic trilogy so like everyone else I’ve been craving more of Red London since reading the final page of A Conjuring of Light way back in 2017. It’ll be out in only 35 days!

Legends and Lattes & Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree

I first bought Legends and Lattes when it was still an indie release, way before it was acquired by Tor Books. BUT I STILL HAVEN’T READ IT. I am terrible at buying cheap books on my Kindle and just not reading them. ๐Ÿ˜… These two books sound right up my street: a cosy fantasy about fantasy races opening a coffee shop, honestly the dream. I own the Broken Binding’s special edition of Legends and Lattes, which looks stunning and have pre-ordered the same edition for Bookshops and Bonedust, due to be released in November.

Malice by John Gwynne

I have owned the entirety of The Faithful and the Fallen for far too long. All 4 books have just been sat on my book shelf, unread and unappreciated. I’ve read John Gwynne’s most recent series, The Bloodsworn Saga, and have loved it. Gwynne’s first epic fantasy series is considered by many to be an underrated gem. Saying I’ll read all of them by the end of the year is just unrealistic but hopefully I can start it at least.
