“Bad magic, Kell had called it.
No, thought Lila now. Clever magic.
And clever was more dangerous than bad any day of the week.”

V.E. Schwab, A Darker Shade of Magic

A Darker Shade of Magic was one of the first adult fantasy books overwhelmingly recommended to me when I first joined the bookstagram community in 2017 and it did not disappoint. After buying it from my local Waterstones I read it in a week and instantly placed an order online for A Gathering of Shadows & A Conjuring of Light. By the end of the month I’d finished the entire trilogy. The series has remained close to my heart over these past 6 years and is one of my all-time favourite fantasy series.

Since I started the series not long after the conclusion of the trilogy was released I had already heard whisperings of a sequel trilogy in years to come. And 2023 is that year! The Fragile Threads of Power is due to be released in the UK on September 26 by Titan Books.

In anticipation of the release of The Fragile Threads of Power I will be re-reading the Shades of Magic trilogy over the next few months. I’m reading quite a few other series at the moment, so I’ve noted down a schedule I will hopefully stick too. If you’re thinking of re-reading the series before September 26 or if you’ve never picked it up and are interested please feel free to follow along! The schedule is as follows:

A Darker Shade of Magic: July 24 – August 6

A Gathering of Shadows: August 7 – 20

A Conjuring of Light: August 21 – September 10

Although I read the series much faster back in 2017, I wanted to make sure I added in a bit of reading time in case of a reading slump or if I have too much work on. I’ll also be reading Volumes 1-3 of The Steel Prince before July 24. These are the prequel comics set before the events of A Darker Shade of Magic.
