Well, its been a while since I’ve made a TBR. I want to get back into doing monthly TBR and wrap up blog posts in an attempt to be more consistent with reading and being accountable for when I’m being super lazy and don’t read anything! I have quite a few bookish goals and series I really want to get too this year so I really need to get a move on and read some books.

The first book on the list for April is one I need to finish from March: Gallant by V.E. Schwab. I was incredibly lucky to have received a physical ARC from Titan Publishing (thank you Ellie for the help!). Gallant is a magical soft fantasy about an orphaned girl who receives a letter from an uncle she never knew she had to join him at their family home, but when she arrives she finds he’s been dead for years, a cousin that can’t wait to be rid of here and two housekeepers who try to do what’s best for her. The manor house of Gallant is littered with secrets with ghouls roaming the halls, not to mention Death lingering beyond the garden wall. I only have 50 or so pages left so I actually should be able to finish it by tomorrow. To be honest I could’ve finished it a lot sooner if I hadn’t been distracted by Joe Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself and I can’t continue the series until I’ve finished Gallant!
As soon as I finish Gallant I’ll be jumping straight into Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie. I absolutely loved The Blade Itself and despite being a character driven story it’s an absolute page turner! Unfortunately I can’t say much about what I’m excited to read about in book 2 without completely spoiling book 1. If you love classic fantasy tropes turned on their head and dragged through the blood-soaked soil of a battlefield then you’ll probably enjoy getting into The First Law trilogy.
The next book I’m reading in April is No Gods, Only Monsters by Steve McHugh. I have once again been selected to support this book with Escapist Book Tours. Here’s a little excerpt of the blub to peak your interest: Diana, the Roman Goddess of the hunt, lives alone on the far edge of the Roman Empire. When an old friend arrives looking for help, Diana finds herself thrust back into her old life, and old problems. With innocent lives caught in the crossfire, Diana realises that the only way to ensure the safety of her friends and loved ones is to do what she does best: hunt her enemies down. The tour runs from April 28th until May 4th, my stop will be on May 2nd so keep an eye our for that!
The final books I plan to read in April are Volumes 2, 3, 4 and 5 of BEASTARS by Paru Itagaki. I read the first two volumes last year and then didn’t continue for some reason or another. I’ve been meaning to get back into this manga for a while now and managed to read volume 1 back in March. My plan going forward is to read one a week until I’m caught up, I think volume 18 has just come out so it’ll be a while until I’m up to date. Funnily enough I managed to convince one of my friends to watch the anime adaptation yesterday. He’s nearly at the end of season 2 already!
Annnnnnd that’s it for my April TBR! Let’s hope I actually, er, stick with it this time? 😅
